Committee: The occupation crosses red lines by arresting Palestinian journalists

The Committee to Support Journalists said, today, Monday, that the Israeli occupation has crossed the red lines in its violations against Palestinian journalists by escalating campaigns of arrest and summoning of journalists after raiding and storming their homes, against the background of freedom of opinion and expression, trial and renewal of their administrative detention order In military courts and through a system of racist laws.

In a statement, the committee pointed out that the number of journalists detained in the occupation prisons has risen to 23.

And he considered the occupation army´s insistence on silencing and obstructing journalists from performing their professional duty, in contravention of the international conventions that guarantee freedom of journalistic work, it is a systematic policy intended to obliterate the truth and the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people.

She indicated that the occupation arrested the journalist Mujahid Mardawi from the town of Habla, south of Qalqilya, at the Karama crossing during his return from studying for a master’s degree in Malaysia. The occupation court transferred the captive Palestinian poet Mahmoud Karim Ayyad (Al-Murabit) from Dheisheh camp in Bethlehem to administrative detention after 50 days of investigations, after an Israeli force arrested him on July 13th.

She indicated that the occupation transferred journalist Musab Saeed from Birzeit town, north of Ramallah, to administrative detention for a period of 6 months, after it arrested him last month, and the occupation prison administration also intended to transfer prisoner Saeed to Megiddo Prison.

The committee warned against the process of arrests, summons, and movements inside prisons and transferring the detention of some journalists to administrative detention, which threatens journalists´ exposure to the risk of infection with the Corona virus that is spreading among the ranks of the occupation army.

The committee denounced the occupation crimes against journalists, holding the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the continuation of the series of targeting journalists, calling on the International Federation of Journalists, the Union of Arab Journalists, and all international and Arab press associations and unions to denounce these crimes, provide protection and health safety, and work seriously and urgently for the release of the detained journalists.
