Gaza: one death, 67 cases of corona, and a new quarantine protocol for returnees

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced this morning, Saturday, that it had recorded a death, and 67 new cases of Coronavirus during the past 24 hours.

In its daily report, the ministry stated that the death case is for a citizen Ahmed Faisal Ramadan, 70, who was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the European Gaza Hospital.

And it indicated that 120 new recoveries were recorded among the injured.

It stated that the central laboratory conducted tests for 2,073 new samples during the same period.

The total number of injured people since last March has reached 2725, of whom 1646 are active cases, 1060 have recovered, and 19 deaths.

For his part, Ashraf al-Qidra, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health, said in a radio interview this morning that it was decided to adopt the protocol for quarantining the returnees through the Rafah crossing for a period of one week, and on the fifth day, a laboratory survey of the hosts will be conducted.

He added, if the test result appeared "negative" on the seventh day, the citizen would return to his home according to a health system and quarantine himself at home for another week, and if it was positive, he would be isolated in the isolation hospital until he recovered.

He indicated that the Ministry, together with its partners in government institutions, has equipped quarantine centers in the south and north of the Gaza Strip and in Khan Yunis, in addition to some hotels to host the elderly and sick cases.

Al-Qudra stated that at the Rafah crossing, a health education team of the Ministry of Health will receive the returnees and inform them of the required measures during the quarantine period to increase safety and prevent Corona virus.

The spokesman for the health in Gaza indicated that the ministry has designated centers to conduct laboratory examination for all travelers in the various governorates of the Strip before their departure, according to the statements of the Ministry of the Interior, as the examination centers conducted 628 swabs for those leaving on Sunday for free.
