Palestinian protests against the Emirates´ normalization of relations with Israel

Palestinians protested in protests today, Friday, against the United Arab Emirates ’declaration of normalization of its relations with Israel under the auspices of the United States of America.

The demonstrations took place in Gaza and Nablus in the West Bank and the squares of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, during which they burned pictures of Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, describing him as a "traitor."

Hamas leader Mushir al-Masri said during the demonstration in Gaza that the Emirati declaration of normalization with Israel was a "treacherous stab in the side of the Palestinian cause and a free service to Israel."

The leader of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Khaled Al-Batsh, affirmed that "recognition of the legitimacy of the Israeli occupation on the land of Palestine and normalization with it is a betrayal of the Palestinians and their cause," calling on the UAE to retract its step.

In Nablus, the leader of the Fatah movement, Ramadan Jihad, stated that the UAE "repudiated all ties of Arabism, nationalism and Islam and stabbed the Palestinian people in the back at a time when they were facing escalating Israeli aggression."

For his part, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the PLO, Saeb Erekat, said that the UAE’s decision "was forthcoming with or without annexation, and it is a decision at the expense of the legitimate national rights of our Palestinian people."

This came during a meeting with Erekat, the Italian Consul General Giuseppe Fideli, the Spanish Consul General Ignacio Garcia Valdecasas, and the Acting Head of the German Mission in Palestine Michael Harold, each separately.

In a statement, Erekat demanded that these countries should continue to stick to their positions in support of international law and international legitimacy and rejecting the deal of the century, annexation, settlement and imposing bags on the ground.

Erekat explained that the UAE´s normalization with Israel "is a strategic mistake resulting from miscalculations based on imaginary alliances to confront Iran, which is considered an existential threat to them, and the truth is that this agreement has achieved a strengthening of Iran that it would not have obtained even if it spent billions of dollars."

He added that the UAE "has rewarded (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) for the war crimes he commits against the Palestinian people, in exchange for a fig leaf titled a temporary freeze on the annexation process, while Netanyahu confirmed that he will continue the annexation and will not abandon it."
