Gaza:The occupation forces arrested 7 citizens from the Beit Hanoun checkpoint since the beginning of the year

Documentation to the Al-Mizan Center for Human Rights said today, Wednesday, that the Israeli occupation forces have 7 citizens from the Beit Hanoun "Erez" checkpoint since the beginning of this year.

The center stated that all those arrested had obtained passes through the barrier, noting that the last of them was Abdullah al-Daghma, 37, who was arrested on Monday morning while he was going to Tel Hashomer Hospital inside the Green Line, to donate a marrow to his sick brother Hani (45 Years), who is in critical condition.

According to the relatives ’testimony, the patient, Hani al-Daghma, had gone to treatment in the West Bank on 02/23/2020, and because he could not be treated in West Bank hospitals, he was transferred to Tel Hashomer Hospital in May of the same year and he needed a spinal cord transplant.

After taking samples from his family members, it was found that his brother Abdullah´s sample was 100% identical, and accordingly, Abdullah obtained a permit to pass to the hospital, and on 06/07/2020, while he was going to the hospital he was arrested at the Beit Hanoun (Erez) checkpoint from Before the occupation forces stationed at the checkpoint, according to a telephone call, the detainee´s sister received it from those forces.

The Center pointed out that the arrest of Al-Daghmeh differs in its indications from the almost daily arbitrary arrests that the occupation authorities continue against the Palestinians, given its direct effects that threaten the life of another person struggling with death on his bed, indicating the absence of humanitarian principles from the behavior of those authorities.

Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights expressed its strong condemnation of the arrest of Al-Daghma, especially as it threatens the life of his sick brother, who is awaiting his arrival at the hospital to save his life.

The Center condemned in the strongest terms the occupation forces ’continued policy of arbitrary detention and the use of crossings to catch and blackmail Palestinians and exploit their humanitarian needs, especially the patients and their companions.

He stressed that what the occupation authorities are doing is causing catastrophic physical and psychological consequences for these travelers, and threatening the lives of patients referred to treatment outside the Gaza Strip in particular. It also comes in the context of gross and systematic violations of the rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

He saw in Israeli procedures and policies towards Palestinian patients and their companions, which involve various patterns of prevention and restriction of the right to freedom of movement and movement and the right to treatment, a clear violation of the system of protection afforded by international law to individuals without discrimination, and constitutes a serious violation of the obligations of the occupying state under the International Covenant On Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which is a signatory to them.

The Center called for the immediate release of the distress, and to facilitate his arrival at his brother in the Tel Hashomer Hospital to save his life, calling on the international community to fulfill its obligations and put pressure on the occupying state and obligate it to respect international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and lift the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip and ensure freedom of movement and movement of individuals and goods, and secure Medical treatment for all patients, and ensuring their safety and companions.
