Merkel assures the president of her country´s support for peace on the basis of a two-state solution

German Chancellor Angela Merkel assured President Muhammad Abbas on Sunday of her country´s support for peace in the region on the basis of a two-state solution.

President Abbas Merkel congratulated her country on assuming the presidency of the European Union and the International Security Council, hoping that this would contribute to achieving stability and support international law and international legitimacy.

President Abbas Merkel was briefed on the latest political developments, especially regarding the rejected Israeli annexation plans, Palestinian, Arab and international.

The President appreciated Germany´s position in support of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, especially the forcible annexation of the occupied territories.

He expressed the readiness of the State of Palestine to go to negotiations on the basis of international legitimacy and under the auspices of the International Quartet, to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the borders of 1967.

Chancellor Merkel emphasized Germany´s position in support of peace on the basis of a two-state solution and adherence to international law, and that no changes are accepted except through negotiations.

She stressed the importance of the two sides sitting at the negotiating table, stressing the importance of achieving peace in the region, and its significant impact on international stability.
