The United Nations renews UNRWA´s mandate for three years

Today, Friday, the United Nations General Assembly, by an overwhelming majority, renewed the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for a further three years.


The mandate for UNRWA was extended until June 30, 2023, by 169 votes, nine abstentions, and opposition from the United States and Israel. According to the Wafa news agency.

 In turn, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the decision issued by the United Nations General Assembly to extend the mission of UNRWA, considering this decision as a clear message by the international community that international legitimacy decisions are not compromising or blackmailing.


President Abbas said that obtaining the UN resolution overwhelming majority is evidence of the entire world standing with our people, its historical rights and its just cause, and represents a victory for international law and the rights of the Palestinian refugees until their issue is finally resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions.


On behalf of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian leadership, the President thanked the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, calling on the international community to work towards a just solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy decisions to achieve peace, security and stability in the region.
