Warnings of storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the first day of Eid al-Adha

Palestinian groups on Friday warned of the repercussions of calls by Jewish groups to "storm" the Al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem en masse on the first day of Eid al-Adha, due to take place on Sunday.

The first day of Eid al-Adha will coincide with the commemoration of the "destruction of the Temple" among Jews.

Abdullah Siyam, deputy governor of Jerusalem, said that these calls represent "an attack on the faith of Muslims" in conjunction with the advent of the largest Islamic holidays.

Seyam told Palestinian state radio that Israel had rejected plans to impose the temporal and spatial division of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is "the right of Muslims only." In the context, the Islamic Hamas movement warned of "the eruption of the situation in Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories and already tense."

The movement´s leader Bassem Naim said in a statement that the calls to "storm" the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Eid al-Adha "a flagrant attack on the sanctities of Muslims."

"The international community must act to stop this madness, before things get out of hand," he said.
