26 members of Congress call on Blinken to pressure Israel to block construction in E1

26 members of the US Congress called on Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to work to pressure the Israeli government to prevent construction in the E1 classified area east of Jerusalem.

According to the Hebrew newspaper, Haaretz, members of Congress are from the Democratic Party and invited Blinken after the Israeli government approved the construction of more than 3,000 settlement units in the area.

Members of Congress expressed their deep concern about Israeli decisions and plans to build more settlement units, which undermine the two-state solution, in clear violation of international law, noting that during the administration of Donald Trump, there was a 28% increase in settlement construction in the West Bank, which is a significant increase compared to other administrations. former American.

The current US administration considers E1 a red line and a point of no return to the two-state solution, because it divides the West Bank in a way that makes it difficult for Palestinians to move between it from the north and south.

Members of Congress pointed out that this area represents an essential corridor for Palestinian life, and construction in it will limit movement between the north and south of the West Bank.
