During a press conference: The conditions in the occupation prisons are tragic and potentially explosive

The head of the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Qaddoura Fares, said that 250 prisoners in the Israeli occupation prisons from the Islamic Jihad movement announced the start of an open hunger strike, in protest against the series of punishments and abusive measures imposed by the administration against them, following the seizure of 6 prisoners from Gilboa prison were released for their freedom last month.

Fares explained during a press conference held in Ramallah, today, Wednesday, that the prisoners’ start of the strike followed a dialogue that lasted until late last night with the prison administration, in which the latter suggested collecting the movement’s prisoners in two rooms in each section, and returning all the isolated Islamic Jihad prisoners, With the exception of Zaid Basisa, Anas Jaradat, and Abdullah Al-Ardah, they were kept in isolation cells for an additional 3 months.

He added that the proposal was rejected, as the prisoners insisted that things return to their previous state, as they were before the fifth of last September, but the prison administration refused this, based on political directives by the occupation authorities and security and military institutions, which take decisions in situations like this.

The head of the Prisoner's Club indicated that 100 of the 250 prisoners who started the strike will stop drinking water after a week, provided that groups of all factions and components of the captive movement will join the hunger strike successively.

Qadora Fares stressed that Israel, with all its military, security and political institutions, took advantage of the six prisoners' freedom, and found in it the appropriate opportunity to undermine the detention and organizational system in prisons, which forms the basis on which every achievement of the captive movement has been built over the past decades.

And he indicated that the seriousness of the situation in the detention centers stems from the fact that the prison administration found that colliding with all the components of the captive movement would lead it into a losing battle, especially in light of the popular interaction locally and internationally with the issue of the six prisoners. Each individual is responsible for himself.

In this context, he said: “They do not want the structures, structures and frameworks to continue in the prisons, within the framework of the project developed by a group of academics, security officers and some politicians and called it (the Israel Victory Project), which aims to break the will of our Palestinian people, based on breaking the resolve of the prisoners who are symbols. alive.

Fares stressed that the battle is not only limited to limited punishments against a group of prisoners, but rather targets the structure and achievements of the captive movement to break the resolve of our people, which necessitates the factions, university students, and union and civil frameworks to organize popular events in support of the prisoners’ strike in the occupation prisons.

He added that every supportive activity would shorten the life of the strike by one day, and any work that could be done in this battle should not be taken lightly.

The head of the Prisoner’s Club concluded his speech by warning of the seriousness of the health condition of the seven prisoners on hunger strike in protest against the administrative detention, some of whom have been on strike for several months, led by Kayed al-Fosfus and Miqdad al-Qawasmi.

He held the occupation authorities fully responsible for the life of the prisoner, Nasser Abu Hamid, who suffers from a disease no less serious than cancer, and to save his life, he must undergo surgery as soon as possible to remove parts of the lung.

In turn, the Undersecretary for the Affairs of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners, Abdul Qader Al-Khatib, said that the conditions in the occupation prisons are tragic and potentially explosive, as the prisoners suffer from an unprecedented attack, and face serious and actual punishments that result in direct psychological and physical harm, specifically after the heroic and exceptional process of capturing their freedom from prison. Gilboa.

He added: "There is a direct targeting of the prisoners of Islamic Jihad, and there is unparalleled solidarity from all organizations not to let them face their fate alone as a result of repressive measures by the prison administration."

Al-Khatib stressed that the Palestinian arena must witness in the coming days wide and comprehensive support steps with the prisoners, and the formation of a popular incubator to support them, given that they constitute a national symbolism that is still the most sacred in the components of our people.

For his part, the head of the High Commission for the Follow-up of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs, Amin Shoman, stressed that the situation is catastrophic and escalating inside the occupation prisons in light of the failure to respond to the just and humane demand of a number of prisoners on hunger strike in protest against the administrative detention, by setting a time limit for their release.

He added that the administrative detention is renewed for about 70% of the prisoners, in sham courts, and based on secret files based on the estimates of the Israeli Shin Bet.

Shoman stressed the importance of the captive movement of all political colors uniting on an escalating national program, against the measures taken by the prison administration, not only against the prisoners of the Islamic Jihad movement, scattering them and distributing them to different rooms and sections in various Israeli prisons.

He added that all political, legal and legal levels, whether working in Palestine or abroad, must prevent Israeli overreach in dealing with prisoners in general, and with jihad in particular, and to mobilize all in order to defend this militant group and this issue that constitutes a Palestinian national constant. .

Shoman made an appeal to the masses of our people, its institutions, factions, kinetic frameworks, youth and women, unions and unions, to stand by the prisoners on hunger strike, who were re-arrested after they were able to extract their freedom from Gilboa prison.

And he announced that tomorrow there will be consensus between the institutions concerned with prisoners in the occupation prisons and the forces and factions on an escalating national program supporting the Palestinian captive movement, if the hunger strike continues and the occupation prisons administration does not respond immediately to the demands of the captive movement and the prisoners of Islamic Jihad in particular, and the prisoners on strike Food against administrative detention.
