The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs almost declared that the settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories are illegal under international law and represent a serious obstacle to the possibility of a permanent and acceptable solution on both sides.
The Italian Foreign Ministry expressed, in a press statement, today, Saturday, its deep concern over the Israeli government´s announcement of building thousands of settlement units in East Jerusalem. And it called on the Israeli authorities to review the announced decision.
She stressed that Italy remains convinced that a just and lasting peace, based on internationally recognized standards and relevant United Nations resolutions, cannot be guaranteed without a solution based on the existence of two states, with Jerusalem as the capital of both.
And Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, last Thursday, announced the construction of thousands of new settlement units in occupied East Jerusalem.
Earlier, the occupation authorities announced a plan aimed at establishing a settlement neighborhood on the territory of Jerusalem International Airport, "Qalandiya Airport."
