On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.. Shams: Occupation policies responsible for impoverishing Palestinians

The Center for Human Rights and Democracy Media “Shams” denounced, in the strongest and harshest terms, the continuation of “Israel”, the occupying power, in impoverishing the Palestinian people, whether through deductions from the Palestinian clearing funds under the pretext of debts of the electricity company or on the pretext of paying salaries to the families of the Palestinian people. Prisoners and martyrs, the continued control of Palestinian resources and the adoption of colonial economic policies that ensure that the Palestinian economy remains dependent on the Israelis, which means that the Palestinians remain poor and economically independent, and that the West Bank and Gaza Strip remain an open market for Israeli products and a storehouse for cheap labor.

The Shams Center stressed that poverty is a very serious violation of human rights, specifically the right to live in dignity and sufficiency, as it is directly reflected on a number of rights, including: the right to housing, health, education, mobility, movement, well-being and others, which negatively affects civil peace and cohesion. community and raises levels of crime a sense of injustice, marginalization and deprivation.

Shams Center called on the Palestinian National Authority to move forward to develop a general and measurable strategy according to a specific timeframe, based on the vision of building a free and effective Palestinian economy that responds to challenges and is free from pressures and interferences, that guarantees the provision of decent and sustainable job opportunities for all citizens, and the application of the minimum wage. Raising it in proportion to the level of poverty, raising the value of aid provided to poor families, enhancing opportunities for the poor to obtain a fair and quality education, encouraging and supporting small and micro enterprises, fighting financial, administrative and political corruption, providing health services, free and comprehensive health insurance, and providing service infrastructure.
